No, it was about three years ago that Gen V was released in Japan. The sequels took the place of the "third game" Nintendo liked to throw after it, so it seems like it wasn't that long ago. But it's still earlier than normal, especially for U.S since we had to wait for localization on those games but not for Gen VI.

Almost every publisher is rushing the crap out of developers now and it's making the franchises worse each year and I'm getting really tired of it... That's one of the reasons why 343i split off from Microsoft, and it's why EA has been voted the shittiest company in the world for several years in a row. The EA Sports subsidiary thing is great, but the rest of EA is just a horribly money-hungry corporate machine. I didn't think this kind of thing would spread to Japan though, especially since Pokemon has no real competition.

But maybe it hasn't and the Pokemon people just got a spontaneous burst of really good ideas. XI

Well Nintendo could have been pressuring Game Freak to make Pokemon games faster

Not to mention since they switched to 3D graphics they didn't need their spriters to make the graphics so while they were working on BW2 they had their new 3D graphics employees working on the new games.
